Galway to go (these puns will never get old!)

Hi all,

Little bit of an update for you of the past few days for you-

Friday: arrived in Dublin, walked around for a bit, saw stuff, see previous post for more info.

Saturday: really got to exploring Dublin, walked around and saw basically everything "touristy" that you could ever want to see. Included in this litany of things was a tour of the Guinness Storehouse, which was probably a MILLION times cooler than I was expecting. I got incredibly lost and hot walking there (it was probably 70 and sunny, and I was carrying my 40lb backpack with me, awesome) so my free Guinness at the end of the tour was delightful.

Sunday: did a little bit more wandering around Dublin, although the true Irish weather had set in and was rainy and kind of gross. I saw Trinity college, different monuments, etc. The only thing I didn't get to do but wish I had was go to the Kilmainham Gaol (jail) in Dublin. Matt-- sounds like something you'd totally like.

Monday: packed up and checked out of my hostel (yahoo! Not much of a hostel/communal shower gal, I guess...) and had my Work in Ireland orientation. This was mostly informational but kind of boring. From there, I grabbed a bus to Galway for 5 Euro! Great price, but I was so miserably motion sick the entire trip I wanted to die. I had visions of me puking all over the bus in front of 40 strangers, but I managed to hold it down. I got a room in a totally lovely B&B, with my own room/bathroom overlooking the garden. It's awesome and a HUGE upgrade from the hostel, for only a few Euro more per night.

Glaway is one of the bigger sized towns in Ireland, and it's on the Western coast. Everyone here is rather young, as there are 2 colleges nearby, and so far I LOVE it. It's more what I had in mind when I think "Ireland"-- very pretty, on the water, green, and old-timey. I went to a pub on Monday night and had a couple of great chats with some of the locals. It seems the only connection people here make with Minnesota is Bob Dylan, which never fails to crack me up. Anyhow, the pub was playing Irish music and had Irish dancing so that was completely awesome. Old dudes kept buying me drinks, thus making an exciting night even better.

Today: went on the job hunt in Galway without a whole lot of luck. I dropped off probably 30 resumes and only 3 or so people said they were actually hiring, but I am trying not to worry just yet. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
